Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Replacements

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Replacements

by | Sep 30, 2016

Samsung has released an update on the Galaxy Note 7 recall. The company stated that they would replace over 500,000 phones effected by the issue earlier in September. All Note 7 replacement devices will include a software update that will display a green battery on all new Note 7 devices to distinguish which devices have been recalled and replaced. President of Samsung America stated that, “Working hand in hand with the CPSC, we are delivering as promised and moving quickly to educate consumers about the recall and make new Note7s available.” Samsung recalled 1 million phones in the US alone. The recall was initiated because of reports phones overheating and catching fire due to a lithium-ion battery issue.

Solving the cause of the defect

Question is, ‘Was the Galaxy Note 7 rushed?’ That seems to be the case. Samsung was said to have rushed the release and production of the Galaxy Note 7 to beat the new iPhone 7 release. The rush in production of the Samsung device may have contributed to the battery flaw.

Executives at Samsung were said to have knowingly signed off on a plan to accelerate production of the Galaxy Note 7 to beat the Apple iPhone 7 to the chase. The Galaxy Note 7, introduced in August, offered an array of major new features, including the cause of the recall, a new lithium-ion battery that would charge much more rapidly than other phones.

Samsung’s push to the suppliers to speed up the production cycle may have led to the flaws involved with the recall that caused some batteries to dangerously create flammable events for users.

“Did they do it to beat the iPhone 7? Probably not exclusively. They were trying to capture the high ground on all upscale smartphone devices — not just Apple’s.” -E-Commerce Times
